One 1 May 2011, Teresa M Melcher joined Science Editor as its new editor.
Melcher brings an extensive background in journalism to the position. For nearly 20 years, she worked for The Independent in Massillon, Ohio, in various roles: education reporter, suburban editor, city editor, managing editor, and editor. She also worked as the editor for The Bryan Times in Bryan, Ohio, for 3 years. Melcher has experience as a volunteer coordinator, in public relations, and in special events for several nonprofit agencies.
She currently works as the editor at Self Publishing Press, which is based in Gonic, New Hampshire.
Melcher holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
“I hope to continue the precedents set by previous editors of Science Editor”, Melcher said. “I’m excited by the challenges the post represents. It’s a chance for me to grow and see the organization expand its communication opportunities as well.”
The field of scientific, technical, and medical publishing is a new one for Melcher, a native of Portsmouth, Ohio. But she said she’s looking forward to the challenge.
“Most of my experience has been in newspapers”, she said, “but I enjoy working with all types of writing, editing, and communication. I’ve always been interested in science and look forward to learning more about it soon.”
